'Sex is bad for you!' - Is there a media conspiracy?

sex is bad
First it was a much heralded news item about a "Man who has lived to 116 because he's never had sex".   Last week we were told that "A third of adults with HIV were having regular unprotected sex".   Now this week it's been all over the media that "Oral sex leads to throat cancer".

We're not impressed. What are they trying to do? Stop people fucking? Ban blowjobs?

It's going to take more than these kind of scare tactics to put us all off sex! And when these stories are examined in more detail, none of them really stand up to scrutiny...

Avoid stress, not sex!

The man who lived to 116 was a lonely Ukranian goat herd. His life was so simple and laid back that he attributes his longevity not to his virginity, but to the lack of stress that comes with never having to deal with the real world. Source: Ananova

Use protection!

The unprotected HIV sex story was gleaned from a survey in UK gay clubs, bars and saunas. But people failed to look past the headline - in actual fact, most of these HIV+ men were having the unprotected sex with other HIV+ men. Source: InTheNews

But whether you're gay or straight, it's not hard to have safe sex - just use condoms and get tested regularly.

Just enjoy sex and stop worrying...

And the item about oral sex and throat cancer? Apparantly 80% of sexually active women get a HPV infection from oral sex (or even kissing!) during their lives, and HPV makes it 30 times more likely you'll get cancer. Oh - but it's not proven. They just thought they'd depress us with it anyway. Source: BBC News

Well, you know what? Everything has risks. Does this news item stop us shagging? We might as well stop leaving the house, because of the higher chance of being hit by a bus!
