Chief Justice John Roberts lost his 90-year old mother on Saturday. While grieving, he still took his time to write the Chief Justice annual report.
Roberts laments over the importance of not allowing misinformation and lies to spread virally and the importance of understanding the process of how the government works in the day of social media.
“In our age, when social media can instantly spread rumor and false information on a grand scale, the public’s need to understand our government, and the protections it provides, is ever more vital,” Chief Justice Roberts said.
He continued on to encourage his fellow lawmakers with this statement:
“We should reflect on our duty to judge without fear or favor, deciding each matter with humility, integrity, and dispatch,” he wrote. “As the New Year begins, and we turn to the tasks before us, we should each resolve to do our best to maintain the public’s trust that we are faithfully discharging our solemn obligation to equal justice under law.”
Justice Roberts will be the main individual overseeing the Trump Impeachment trial in the Senate.
